Migration

The Serengeti needs very little introduction. It stands out as one of Africa’s premier wildlife viewing and photographic destinations. It really has it all – action, drama, adventure, incredible scenery and beauty, and quality authentic safari accommodation. This 7-night experience will focus on one of the greatest spectacles in nature – The Great Migration – and will leave you wanting more before you’ve even left.

Across the 7 nights on this safari, we will focus initially on the herds surrounding the Mara River. They have to cross the Mara River multiple times in the season, spanning from July to early October. You will be in a small group of only 4 guests.

The herds crossing the great Mara River is an incredible event. There’s every likelihood that you’ll see some of the animals caught by the large crocodiles inhabiting the river. Also, many predators like lions, leopards, and even cheetahs are drawn to the crossing action and could catch wildebeest or zebra as they cross over the river. It’s an epic event and makes for amazing wildlife photographs.

Few safari experiences can compare with the Serengeti during the migration season. It ticks all of the boxes for a great time and there’s little doubt that you’ll find it hard to pack your bags on the final day. This is one encounter with nature you do not want to miss out on.

ITINERARY

Arrive

Arrive into Kilimanjaro International Airport off your international flight. You’ll be met by a representative and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. This drive will take roughly 40 minutes. You will be able to have dinner at the hotel and please note that dinner is not included in the price quoted. Your specialist photographic guide Nick Kleer will meet you at the hotel.

DAY 1

Travel day to Northern Serengeti

After breakfast, we’ll transfer to Arusha Airport for your flight to Kogatende Airstrip, a short drive from your tented camp. You will likely do a game drive to camp as you never know what we may happen across. Should you find something exciting your arrival to camp will be delayed. Once in the camp, you'll check-in and be shown to your room. Settle in, enjoy lunch and be ready to depart for the first-afternoon safari experience. Once you return from safari we'll enjoy a buzzing conversation around the campfire, followed by dinner and a good night's rest.

DAY 2

Northern Serengeti

These will all be full days in Northern Serengeti.

Each day will start early. There will be coffee and snacks available before we depart, and by sunrise, we will be well on our way in search of the action. The focus for the first few days will be the great migration and the Mara River crossing action. You can never predict what will be seen when on safari, so to ensure we have the best possible chance of seeing the herds crossing the river, we'll focus on this during the first few days. Early mornings are also the best time of day to see & view the predators of the Serengeti, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, and more. They are active during the cooler weather and there's a good chance of seeing them out on the prowl. As the day gets hotter we will focus our attention on the waterholes and rivers as this is where animals are drawn as they look for water.

In order to make the most of our time, the days will be pretty full in terms of time in the field. On some of the days, we may pack a lunch box so that we don't have to return to camp. This ensures that we don't miss any action and that we can enjoy the game-viewing experience to the full.

The afternoons can produce great game-viewing opportunities, especially as the day draws to a close and the temperatures start to drop.

After a long day in the field, there will be a warm campfire waiting for you with an ice-cold drink, ready to be enjoyed. In the evenings there will be time to look at and review some of your images with your photographic guide and host, and the same applies to any of the midday hours spent back in camp.

DAY 3-7

Travel day to Kilimanjaro

Today will be your last day in the wilds of Northern Serengeti.

We’ll have a better idea of flight time a little closer to the day, but you’ll enjoy some more quality safari time on this final day. The lodge will transfer you to Kogatende Airstrip for your flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport. Once in Kilimanjaro, the safari experience will draw to a close and you’ll board your international flights back home.
