Itinerary
Arrival - Antananarivo
Welcome to Madagascar! Your journey into one of the world’s most photogenic and diverse landscapes begins at Antananarivo Airport. As you step off the plane, you'll be greeted by a warm smile from our dedicated representative, who will assist you with your luggage and transfer you to the Radisson Hotel Waterfront. We will all gather for a welcoming dinner, where we’ll delve into the thrilling photographic expedition ahead—exploring Madagascar’s unparalleled wildlife, dramatic landscapes, and cultural richness, all through the lens of your camera.
Antananarivo - Toliara
Our first stop is the enchanting Antsokay Arboretum, a sanctuary of resilience and beauty. As we explore the botanical trail, we’ll capture the extraordinary flora adapted to the region’s harsh conditions, offering stunning opportunities for macro and landscape photography. The arboretum, with over 900 unique plant species and vibrant wildlife like the Furcifer verrucosus chameleon, is a photographer's paradise. As night falls, the arboretum reveals its nocturnal inhabitants, providing even more captivating subjects. We’ll end the day at the tranquil Bakuba Concept Lodge, ready to recharge for tomorrow’s adventures.
Toliara - Ranohira (Isalo)
We'll embark on a 5 hour scenic drive to Ranohira, revealing Madagascar's stunning diversity. Along smooth roads, we'll witness vibrant villages born from the sapphire rush, capturing the rich tapestry of local culture. As the landscape shifts, towering baobabs mark our journey through the dry deciduous forest to Zombitse-Vohibasia National Park, where dry and humid ecosystems converge. We will visit a Bara tribe village, where the chief shares their rich traditions, offering a rare glimpse into Madagascar's indigenous culture. Our day concludes at Isalo Rock Lodge, where a sumptuous dinner awaits amid breathtaking landscapes.
Full Day - Isalo National Park
Our day will begin with a thrilling hike through the mesmerizing canyons and oases of Isalo, where ancient landscapes formed during the Jurassic age await. This otherworldly terrain, with its unique flora perfectly adapted to the harsh conditions, offers countless opportunities for stunning photography. Isalo is also home to 77 bird species, including the rare and sought-after Benson’s rock-thrush (Pseudocossyphus bensoni). As we trek, we’ll encounter various species of lemurs, including the iconic ring-tailed lemur, making for unforgettable wildlife encounters. After exploring the canyons, we’ll visit different vantage points to capture panoramic views of the breathtaking landscape. You’ll also have the chance to unwind and swim in the refreshing natural pools, soaking in the tranquility of this extraordinary environment. To top off the day, we'll enjoy a cocktail in this lunar-like setting, specially prepared for you on a small hill known as "Giorgio’s Window." It’s the perfect way to relax and reflect on the day’s adventures.
Ranohira (Isalo) - Antananarivo
Our scenic road trip continues as we leave the captivating landscapes of Isalo behind and head back toward the coastal charm of Toliara. We will once again journey through local villages born from the sapphire rush, each a living testament to Madagascar's rich geological tapestry. The allure of precious gemstones has shaped these settlements, leaving an indelible mark on both the land and its people. As we drive through dry deciduous forests, we'll witness nature's incredible resilience, with flora that has adapted beautifully to the arid conditions.
The journey also introduces us to Madagascar's iconic baobabs, their ancient, towering forms silhouetted against the horizon along National Road 7.
These majestic trees signal our approach to the coast and the Mozambique Channel.
Upon arrival at Toliara Airport, we'll board our Tsaradia flight back to Antananarivo.
Our day concludes with an overnight stay at the Radisson Hotel Waterfront, where you can unwind and recharge, ready to embark on our nextexciting adventure.
Antananarivo - Andasibe
Today we set off towards the enchanting Eastern part of the island. As we wind through the vibrant streets, the city’s lively colors and bustling energy paint a vivid picture of Madagascar’s urban charm.
But the real magic unfolds as we journey further. Over the course of our 150 km expedition, the landscape dramatically shifts, revealing the breathtaking highlands. Picture-perfect traditional villages perch on the hillsides, and vast, emerald-green rice fields stretch out like a beautiful patchwork quilt. The road takes us on a thrilling ride through twists and turns, climbing steeply into a lush, verdant paradise, signaling our arrival into yet another mesmerizing part of Madagascar, Andasibe where we will be staying at Mantadia Lodge.
Along the way, we’ll visit Madagascar Exotic, a private reserve brimming with reptiles, butterflies, and playful lemurs, perfect for capturing stunning photos.
As night falls, we’ll explore the VOIMMA reserve on a thrilling nocturnal walk, uncovering Madagascar’s hidden nocturnal wonders, from vibrant frogs to the enigmatic satanic leaf-tailed gecko. Every moment promises a perfect shot in this captivating region.
Full day Andasibe
Our day begins with an exciting hike into Mantadia’s lush primary forest, just an hour from our hotel. This 15,000-hectare paradise is a haven for nature lovers and photographers. It is home to diverse wildlife including 14 species of lemurs, such as the majestic Indri Indri, and a rich variety of birds, amphibians, and rare orchids. Although the hike is challenging, the rewards are immense.
We’ll continue our adventure at the Vakona Reserve, where we’ll have intimate encounters with lemurs and explore a former crocodile farm, offering unique photo opportunities in this extraordinary part of Andasibe.
Andasibe - Morondava
After a restful night and a delightful breakfast, we’ll be seamlessly transferred to the airport, arriving just in time for our private charter to the enchanting town of Morondava.
Upon landing, a warm welcome awaits as we are greeted by a representative who will escort us to the luxurious Palissandre Côte Ouest Resort & Spa, our home for the next two nights. Get ready to unwind and immerse yourself in the serene beauty of this idyllic coastal retreat, where relaxation and adventure blend perfectly.
Full Day - Morondava
After an early breakfast, we’ll set off to capture the magical sunrise at the iconic Alley of the Baobabs, where golden light bathes these ancient giants in a dreamlike glow.
Our adventure continues at Kirindy Forest, a vital remnant of Madagascar's endangered dry deciduous forests, home to the elusive Fossa, seven species of lemurs, and countless endemic reptiles.
As the day winds down, we'll return to Baobab Alley for a dramatic sunset, enjoying a private cocktail amidst the striking silhouettes of these majestic trees.
We’ll end the day with a delicious dinner and a restful night, ready for tomorrow’s adventures.
Morondava - Bekopaka Bemaraha
In the early morning, depending on the tide, we’ll embark on an authentic pirogue (a long, narrow canoe) journey through the bustling port of Botry, passing traditional dhows and weaving through mangroves to reach a Vezo fishing village. Here, we’ll witness the return of semi-nomadic fishermen from their sea expeditions and their lively bargaining over the day’s freshest catch.
After this vibrant experience, we’ll transfer to the private charter terminal for a breathtaking 45-minute flight to Amborodia, offering stunning views of the Mozambique Channel and Kirindy Forest.
Upon arrival, we’ll be greeted and transferred to Soleil des Tsingy, where we’ll unwind for the next two nights.
Full Day - Bekopaka Bemaraha
We’ll set off in our 4x4 vehicles and drive north of Bekopaka to reach the entrance of our trail. Equipped with harnesses clipped to steel cables, we’ll climb and traverse the unique limestone forest of Tsingy de Bemaraha. This Integral Nature Reserve is renowned for its rare and remarkable geological formations, offering an exceptional and breathtaking landscape. The reserve features an impressive karstic terrain, with a highly dissected limestone massif that rises up to 100 meters, forming towering cathedrals of rock. The scenery here is nothing short of spectacular, providing a grand and awe-inspiring natural experience.
Bekopaka Bemaraha - Anjajavy
After breakfast, we'll embark on a scenic journey back to the airport, where our private charter awaits to whisk us away to the enchanting Anjajavy. In just 1hr30min, we'll touch down at the stunning Anjajavy L'Hôtel, a proud member of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux collection. This luxurious lodge, rated as four-star-plus by European standards, is more than just a place to stay—it's a sanctuary for the discerning eco-traveler, offering a serene and sophisticated escape.
Nestled in one of Madagascar’s most captivating landscapes, Anjajavy is the perfect grand finale to our adventure, where we’ll spend three magical nights surrounded by pristine nature and unparalleled comfort. Full Days - Anjajavy
In Anjajavy, we'll have 2 full days to explore and capture the essence of a remote paradise on Madagascar's West coast, perfect for photographers seeking stunning, diverse landscapes.
This secluded fishing village, surrounded by a 550-hectare reserve, offers a rich tapestry of natural beauty, from dry deciduous forests and protected mangroves to unique limestone tsingy formations and pristine beaches. The area is a haven for wildlife, including photogenic lemurs, vibrant reptiles, and an array of endemic species. Birdwatchers and photographers alike will be thrilled to capture the elusive Madagascan sacred ibis and flying fox in their natural habitat.
Anjajavy promises a visual feast and an unforgettable opportunity to document Madagascar's extraordinary biodiversity.
Anjajavy - Antananarivo
In the morning, we'll transfer to the airport for our private charter flight back to Antananarivo. The 1hr30min journey offers scenic views of the vibrant rice fields surrounding the city.
We will have the day to explore Antananarivo by first visiting the Museum of Photography, housed in a historic building, showcasing captivating images from 1860 to 1960 that offer a glimpse into Madagascar's rich past—a visual treat for any photographer. After a coffee at the charming Café du Musée, we'll dive into the city's lively heart, capturing the essence of the Avenue of Independence, the former Zoma market, and the bustling CBD, with its stairways leading to the street of jewelers and the Presidential Palace.
We will spend the night at the Radisson Hotel Waterfront.
Departure - Antananarivo
Today marks the end of our trip. You will be transferred to the international terminal, on time for your departure flight. We wish you a safe flight onward journey home.
